At present, there are dozens of types of optical materials: colorless optical glass and colored optical glass, infrared optical materials, optical crystals, optical quartz glass, artificial optical quartz crystal, glass ceramics, optical plastics, optical fibers, glass for aviation agricultural production system, opalescent diffuse glass and related liquid materials. Optical glass is widely used in imaging elements. The quality of plastic lens can meet the quality requirements of glass lens in many places. Especially in the eyewear industry, there is a trend to replace it. However, due to its low refractive index, high scattering, nonuniformity and other limitations, it is not as widely used as optical glass.

Japan's HOYA Company has launched 31 kinds of environment-friendly glass in 101 varieties in the product catalog since 1994, and has all realized lead-free and arsenic free environment-friendly optical glass in 2002. SHOTT, a German company, began to develop environment-friendly glass in the 1980s. In 2000, 67 of the 87 varieties in the product catalog belonged to lead-free and arsenic free environment-friendly optical glass. Therefore, the environmental protection of optical glass has become the inevitable trend of the development of the world optical material industry. In view of chemical stability, high refractive index, high dispersion and price, PbO should be added into ordinary optical glass; In order to improve the atmosphere conditions, clarify and remove bubbles, As2O3 should be added into ordinary optical glass. However, titanium oxide is a kind of variable valence oxide. Excessive addition will greatly increase the difficulty of production technology. The problem is that the transmissivity decreases in the short wave range, and the devitrification resistance, transparency and defoaming resistance of glass become worse. In particular, the platinum melting crucible is easy to pollute the glass and make the glass tinted, and the tinting degree cannot meet the requirements when the product is exported. The innovative achievements of these technologies meet the needs of the development of military and civilian high-tech. There is still a big gap between China and foreign countries in the development of new optical optoelectronic information materials, among which the high-precision sheet glass, low melting point optical glass, aspheric molding process, phosphate optical glass and high-density optical disk glass of liquid crystal display substrate are still blank in China. The variety, quality and smelting technology of environment-friendly optical glass and lanthanide optical glass need to be further improved, and many products need to be further developed.
